AI 3D model generation in 2026: what's new — and what it costs in India.
2026 is the year AI 3D generation stopped being a demo. Engines that needed minutes now return an object in seconds, textures arrive as real materials instead of painted mush, and a frontier-quality model finally shipped with weights you can download under a licence with no strings.
The market agrees: the 3D Gaussian Splatting tools market stood at about $1.2 billion in 2024 and is projected to reach $7.8 billion by 2033, a 23.6 percent CAGR, now powering Apple Vision Pro capture apps.
If you make things in India, the practical version is shorter: an idea or a photo becomes a printed object this week, at a price you can check in rupees and seconds. Below, the year in releases, the topology problem everyone skips, and the exact ladder from FOFUS Make3D engines.
The releases that defined the year
Tripo P1.0: two seconds to an engine-ready asset
At GDC 2026 in San Francisco (9 March 2026), Tripo unveiled P1.0, its first native 3D diffusion model: instead of assembling 2D views it resolves the whole object in one pass, returning an engine-ready asset in about 2 seconds with topology clean enough for Unity or Unreal, from text or reference image. Its high-detail twin H3.1 (API string v3.1-20260211) handles dense, textured work.
Tripo reports 20 million users and about $350 million raised in 2026 (Series A+, A++ and A3, June and July) at a reported $1 billion valuation. Two years ago this was studio-rental technology; today it runs in a browser tab, and on FOFUS it powers a ₹140 standard text generation.
TRELLIS.2: frontier quality you can actually download (16 December 2025)
Microsoft's TRELLIS.2 (16 December 2025) broke the field's oldest pattern: the best model is always rented. It is a 4-billion-parameter image-to-3D model on a field-free sparse voxel structure (O-Voxel) with a large-scale flow-matching transformer, released under the MIT licence: a fully textured 512³ asset in about 3 seconds, 1024³ in about 17, complete PBR (base colour, roughness, metallic, opacity), GLB textures to 4096².
Nothing else this good has a licence this clean: the only frontier-quality model with no territory, revenue or user-count clause. TRELLIS also ships MIT text-conditioned models, and TRELLIS-text-xlarge leads Hugging Face text-to-3D downloads with about 26,659. Tencent's ARC Pixal3D (May 2026, MIT, SIGGRAPH 2026 paper) adds pixel-aligned image-to-3D with PBR and published inference and training code. To run a model yourself, watch this line.
Hunyuan3D 3.x: the capability ceiling, hosted only (January 2026 onward)
Tencent's Hunyuan3D 3.x tops the year on raw capability. Version 3.0 (16 September 2025) set the bar at 1536³ geometry, 3.6 billion voxels and a claimed 3x accuracy jump; version 3.1 followed on 28 January 2026. Both run hosted-only at 20 free generations a day, and open weights stop at 2.1 (June 2025).
The small print: every Tencent open release ships under a Community Licence that does not apply in the EU, UK or South Korea, with a 1 million monthly-active-user cap where it does. For a hobbyist that is trivia; for a business with plans there it is a wall. The hosted-versus-open gap widened through 2026.
Rodin Gen-2.5: production polycounts, promptable edits (26 May 2026)
Hyper3D and Deemos pushed hosted quality furthest with Rodin Gen-2.5 (26 May 2026): raw output above 10 million polygons, tiers from 4-second drafts to 80-second quality, raw tri, quad or Smart Low-Poly outputs. Gen-2 Edit (31 March 2026) lets you select a region on an uploaded mesh and edit it by text prompt, the trick nicknamed 3D Nano Banana. Rodin Gen-2 grants full commercial rights on all plans, including free credits.
Meshy 7: the benchmark, made public (12 August 2026)
Meshy 7 (12 August 2026) published its own scores: 81.0 percent proportion, 79.7 spatial, 59.8 surface detail on its image-to-3D benchmark, plus Ultra Mode at launch on single-view input. The trail matters too: Meshy 6 GA (18 January 2026) introduced Low Poly Mode, native 8K textures shipped on 22 July 2026, and Meshy 6 Lite (August 2026) covers draft iteration. Roughly $400 million raised at a reported $1.5 billion valuation remains the largest round in AI 3D to date.
Topology: the gap nobody talks about
Launch pages talk about resolution and texture. Print farms need different things, none of which raw diffusion output provides by default: a closed watertight surface, walls that survive slicing, sensible build orientation, and a support burden you can afford in filament and finishing time.
That is why every major release advertises topology options. Raw output has no organized edge loops, so Meshy added Low Poly Mode, Tripo P1.0 headlines quad output and Rodin sells quads next to raw triangles. Even-quad and low-poly shells work for props and hard-surface parts, but not yet for a hero character on a deformation rig, where edge flow must concentrate at the face and shoulders.
So every AI mesh needs a check before you commit filament, and FOFUS runs it: each model is certified for printability (watertightness, build-volume fit, wall thickness, overhangs, stability, mesh density) and graded A to D before download, certification free.
Where India fits: your options
Open weights are for people who own GPUs. For everyone else: what does a usable model cost, and what comes in the box? On FOFUS's Make3D engines every paid generation includes the printable STL, 25 percent of it returns as coins (₹1 per coin), and every generation is previewable free before you pay.
| Engine | Input | Price | Coins back |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trellis + SAM 3D Objects + SAM 3D Body (photo reconstruction, incl. human body) | photo | ₹120 | 30 coins |
| Standard AI text (Tripo H3.1) | text | ₹140 | 35 coins |
| Standard AI photo + Standard AI multi-view (2-4 views) + HD print-optimized (Trellis 2) | photo, 2-4 views | ₹150 | 37 coins |
| Photo-Real (Hunyuan3D v3, PBR) + Studio (Rodin 2.5, up to 5 photos, production-grade) | text / photo | ₹160 | 40 coins |
The parametric engine (A0) sits outside the mesh rungs: type "a replacement gear, 14 teeth" or "a phone stand for a thick case", generation and preview are free, print-ready STL download ₹50. New accounts start with ₹100 in free credits (100 coins) to spend on paid engines.
If you would rather browse, one search box covers 19 model libraries (Thingiverse, Printables, MakerWorld, Cults3D, Thangs and more) at designai.fofus.in/explore, every model auto-graded A to D before download. From any path, quote.fofus.in turns a file into a slice-verified price: PLA ₹2.50/g, ₹100 minimum order, India delivery in 3-5 business days. Fofy on WhatsApp (+91 70120 04640), 24/7, runs the whole ladder in chat.
How to choose your engine for the job
- A functional part where dimensions matter: the parametric engine (A0), clean resizable geometry instead of generated guesswork.
- A figurine from a written description: Standard AI text, ₹140 (35 coins back), cheap to iterate until it looks right.
- A broken thing you can photograph: photo reconstruction, ₹120 (30 coins back) from one view, ₹150 (37 coins back) with 2-4 views for sharper geometry.
- A display piece for a shelf or gift: Photo-Real or Studio, ₹160 (40 coins back), full PBR textures.
- No engine fits: a human designer at designers.fofus.in, from ₹500, escrow-protected.
