FOFUS Newsroom — October 21, 2026

Today brings updates on volumetric printing, stop-motion production, and metal extrusion.

LAIKA integrates PrismSlicer. Stop-motion studio LAIKA has partnered with Additive Appearance to use the PrismSlicer renderer, according to 3D Printing Industry on 21 Oct 2026. The software allows artists to preview color and translucency for PolyJet prints before production.

OpenCAL volumetric printer released. Researchers at UC Berkeley have launched OpenCAL, a build-it-yourself volumetric additive manufacturing printer, 3D Printing Industry reports on 21 Oct 2026. The system can solidify a complete part in a rotating resin vial in roughly 90 seconds for about $1,600.

ValCUN expands aluminum MMD. Belgian company ValCUN is pushing its Molten Metal Deposition (MMD) process for aluminum 3D printing, VoxelMatters reports on 21 Oct 2026. This direct extrusion method uses standard metal wire as feedstock to solve common aluminum printing challenges.

Grenzebach enters post-processing. Grenzebach Additive Solutions now offers end-to-end, manufacturer-independent post-processing projects, VoxelMatters reports on 21 Oct 2026. The company aims to optimize the entire production environment rather than focusing on individual machines.
