Baitersloop
3D Scanning and Digital Preservation Solutions from Kerala
Baitersloop is a FOFUS Launch Pad company specialising in 3D scanning, digital preservation, and reverse engineering services — operating from the FOFUS facility in Thommana, Irinjalakuda, Thrissur. It serves individuals, businesses, cultural institutions, and manufacturers who need to digitise physical objects into accurate 3D data.
The name Baitersloop — a historical type of fast-sailing vessel — reflects the brand’s founding philosophy: speed and precision in service of getting valuable things where they need to go. In Baitersloop’s case, that means getting physical objects into digital form quickly and accurately.
The Story
Baitersloop was founded on the observation that 3D scanning technology — widely used in automotive, aerospace, and heritage preservation globally — is almost entirely inaccessible to individuals and small businesses in Kerala. The equipment costs ₹10–50 lakh. The nearest professional scanning bureau is typically in Kochi or Coimbatore. And the turnaround time for outsourced scans is measured in weeks.
FOFUS already owned 3D scanning hardware for its own product development work. Baitersloop was the logical extension: opening that scanning capability as a service to Kerala’s artisans, manufacturers, cultural institutions, and individuals who need digital preservation of physical objects.
Services
- Object scanning and digitisation — any physical object from 5cm to 1.5m; output as STL, OBJ, or STEP file; turnaround 24–48 hours
- Reverse engineering — broken or legacy parts scanned and converted to editable CAD for remanufacturing; critical for machinery and industrial equipment repair
- Heritage and cultural preservation — temple idols, antique objects, family heirlooms, architectural elements scanned and archived as permanent digital records
- Replica production — scan + 3D print pipeline: scan an existing object and reproduce it at original scale or any scaled size
- Medical and prosthetic models — custom anatomical models for surgical planning and medical education
- Jewellery and craft duplication — scan original artisan pieces for reproduction or digital catalogue
Use Cases
- A temple committee wants to create digital archives of ancient idols before restoration work — Baitersloop scans them to 0.1mm accuracy
- A small manufacturer in Thrissur needs a replacement part for a 1980s machine whose drawings no longer exist — Baitersloop scans the worn part and reverse-engineers a CAD file
- A family wants to preserve a great-grandmother’s handcrafted jewellery box as a digital heirloom and reproduce it in 3D — Baitersloop scans, cleans the mesh, and FOFUS prints it
- A dental college needs anatomical skull and jaw models for student training — Baitersloop provides scan-to-print service using real anatomical references
