Custom Kerala Chocolates Made with 3D-Designed Molds

Minns Chocolatier is Kerala’s first artisanal chocolate brand whose production moulds are entirely 3D-designed and manufactured. Based in Thrissur and launched through FOFUS Launch Pad, Minns produces limited-edition chocolate collections that combine premium chocolate craft with Kerala-specific cultural motifs — elephant forms, temple lamps, Onam florals, and custom corporate designs.

The result is a product category that did not previously exist in Kerala: high-quality, culturally distinctive, giftable chocolate at a price point accessible to the premium gifting market.

The Founding Story

The founder of Minns Chocolatier approached FOFUS with a problem that most artisan chocolate makers in India face: beautiful Belgian-style chocolate is achievable, but the molds required to give it distinctive form cost thousands of rupees each from commercial suppliers, with minimum order quantities that make experimentation impossible.

FOFUS’s answer was food-grade resin 3D printing — the same technology used in dental and medical applications, repurposed for chocolate mold production. A custom mold that would cost ₹5,000–15,000 from a commercial supplier could be prototyped at FOFUS in 48 hours for a fraction of the cost, iterated until perfect, and then produced in small batches.

Minns’s first collection — the Kerala Heritage Chocolate Box — featured five molds: Guruvayur elephant, Nilavilakku (traditional lamp), Pookalam (floral rangoli), Kathakali mask, and a Kerala boat (Chundan Vallam). Each piece was hand-tempered dark or milk chocolate poured into a 3D-printed food-grade mold and finished with edible gold dust on the elephant and lamp pieces.

The 3D Mold Manufacturing Process

Design brief — founder provides cultural motif reference or custom design requirement
3D CAD modeling — FOFUS designs the mold cavity with correct draft angles, wall thickness, and food-grade geometry
Food-grade resin print — mold printed in biocompatible, food-safe resin on FOFUS SLA printer
